Finland and China have been enjoying longstanding and traditional friendship. The two countries established diplomatic relations as early as 1950. In 1953, the inter-governmental trade agreement was signed between the two countries, as the first of its kind in Europe. Over the years, the two nations have witnessed a continuously consolidated political relationship and an ever-developing trade and economic ties.
Finland was China's largest trade partner in Nordic region for five consecutive years from 2004 to 2008. According to the statistics from China's General Administration of Customs, the value of China-Finland bilateral trade was 11.28 billion USD in 2012, enjoying a 0.8% increase campared to the year before. Investment has also seen continuous and new developments. IT, forestry, paper and machinery are the main sectors of investments and cooperation between two countries is also growing.
The sustained, steady and sound economic and trade relations between China and Finland have promoted the development of both economies, and brought benefits to the two peoples as well.
The mission of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office is to provide consultation and information for both Finnish and Chinese companies, to work as a link between the two governmental departments in charge of economic and trade affairs, and to promote bilateral trade and investment. I sincerely hope the website will serve as a bridge, facilitating the information exchange and increasing mutual understanding between the two countries.
Given the traditionally sound political relations, complementarities between the two economies, and great passion of the two business communities for cooperation, the bilateral economic and trade cooperation is promising and enjoys enormous potential.
