Notice to Finnish Companies
Recently, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of Chinese Embassy in Finland has been made aware of several cases of fraud by complaints from Finnish individuals and companies. What we have done to help is that we sent the information back to the relevant authorities in China, and asked for their assistance to find these frauds. One thing we can assure is that China is a country with the rule of law, and any criminals will be cracked down and punished. But from our past experiences, these scams were really hard to find, some even disappeared. We strongly advise that special attention should be taken into account.
Typical scams were as follows:
● Products offered through the Internet Some frauds used fake websites to offer attractive products at prices that were unusually low. Once ordered and paid for, the goods were not delivered. Any subsequent complaint was in vain and the frauds disappeared.
● Advance payment scams Some frauds sent out multiple offers for large contracts to Finnish and other foreign companies. Following short negotiations, these scams were generally used to entice Finnish companies to give advance payments to ‘secure the deal’. Very often the company ended up with a worthless contract and the frauds disappeared.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
● An offer ‘too good to be true’ might turn out to be scams.
● Increase your vigilance when making deals via email and websites only.
